Silas Ifeanyi of the Pearl Sullivan Engineering IDEAs Clinic at the University of Waterloo has paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of the College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), aimed at strengthening international academic collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit preceded a quantum key distribution (QKD) workshop facilitated by Mr. Ifeanyi at the Ghana Photonics and Optics Laboratory (GPOL), as part of efforts to deepen capacity building in advanced photonics research at KNUST.
The Provost, Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei, welcomed Mr. Ifeanyi and expressed appreciation for his efforts to build international relations between KNUST and the University of Waterloo. He noted that such partnerships play a critical role in advancing scientific research and enhancing academic output within the College of Science.
Professor Antwi-Agyei further urged the Principal Investigators of the Ghana Photonics and Optics Laboratory (GPOL), Dr. Akyana Britwum and Dr. Michael K. E. Donkor, who were also present at the meeting, to intensify efforts to improve the visibility of GPOL’s activities. According to him, expanding awareness of the laboratory’s work in photonics and STEM education would help extend its impact to a broader audience.
He reiterated that international collaborations are essential to the progress of scientific work in the College, and encouraged the GPOL leadership to pursue additional partnerships that would contribute to research advancement and academic excellence at KNUST.
