On Thursday, September 25, 2025, the Ghana Photonics and Optics Laboratory and the KNUST Photonics Student Chapter took part in the WiSTEMGH 2025 Girls Camp, an inspiring outreach initiative dedicated to empowering young girls in senior high schools and educators in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

The event brought together 300 students and 60 teachers from 30 senior high schools across Ghana, creating a dynamic environment for collaborative learning and mentorship.

The 3-hour outreach and training session featured a series of hands-on experimental activities designed to engage participants in practical scientific exploration. Students were grouped into smaller teams and guided by dedicated facilitators stationed at various experiment stations. Each station offered unique interactive demonstrations that highlighted fundamental principles in physics, optics, and general science, bridging theoretical learning with real-world applications.

Teachers also participated in parallel sessions tailored to their needs, where they engaged with KPSC facilitators to explore innovative teaching methods, classroom demonstrations, and resource development strategies. These sessions aimed to strengthen educators’ capacity to deliver STEM education more effectively.

The program nurtured scientific curiosity among the girls and reinforced the importance of mentorship and representation for women in STEM fields.

Through this outreach, KPSC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing science education and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in support of emerging female scientists, engineers, and innovators. The Chapter expressed its sincere appreciation to WiSTEMGH for providing such an impactful platform that continues to empower and inspire young women in STEM across Ghana.
